Open Study Letterpress Workshop

Please join us on Saturday mornings from 10-1, from January 15th through March 5th for an 8 week open study workshop. Open study means you get to tell us what you are there to learn, and we’ll tailor your syllabus accordingly. This is a small class setting, well suited for both beginning and advanced students, lead by Eva Hamden. Tuition is $280, plus materials (paper and plates, amount dependent on the needs of your chosen project.) Learn the Vandercook or the Heidelberg, platemaking, design for letterpress printing, and other related skills. Use this course to learn or expand new skills, develop your dream card line, print broadsides, invitations, stationery, or fold letterpress into your artwork. Twelve Teens a Printing

Twelve teens from The Contemporary Jewish Museum came to our studio this Sunday to print invitations to their new Teen Architecture Tour program. They are part of a new paid teen-led internship program with the museum. Recently, they have been training to lead visitors on architecture tours through the museum’s unique structure, designed in 1998 by Daniel Libeskind.

Artist Workshop at RPS Collective

Come to the studio and print with us! Letterpress beginners can take our Letterpress on the Vandercook class. We have an extended Heidelberg workshop – a unique offering in this area. We also have an open print workshop that includes both letterpresses and both etching presses. Here are the details:

A New Apprentice in the Shop

For most of us, the first day in any new environment, be it a job, classroom, or even a store, is usually filled with anxiety and curiosity. My first day as a letterpress apprentice featured only the latter. I left all presumptions at the door as I walked into the Painted Tongue Press’s studio space. Between the art and paper sculptures covering the walls and ceiling and the colorful drawers and cabinets scattered throughout, I knew this wasn’t any ordinary letterpress studio.
