New Workshops in May

Come to the studio and print with us! Letterpress beginners can take our Letterpress on the Vandercook class. We have an extended Heidelberg workshop – a unique offering in this area. We also have an open print workshop that includes both letterpresses and both etching presses. Here are the details:

Letterpress on the Vandercook: Suitable for beginning to intermediate students, this covers design for letterpress using InDesign and Photoshop, creating film files, making photopolymer plates, using the guillotine to cut paper, printing on the Vandercook and bindings and assemblies. Focus is on photopolymer, rather than hand set, letterpress. Students may come to class with their own project in mind, be it invitations, cards, broadsides, or a simple book. Or, students may come just to learn the craft, and the instuctors will guide them through project choices and development. Taught by Jenny Seiler and Bettina Pauly. Sundays, 11:30-2:30, May 17th – August 30th. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $550*.

Heidleberg Windmill Extended: Students spend a full semester learning how to print using the Windmill, as well as standard care and maintenence, and mechanics of the press. Design and basics of printing will not be taught at this course. Students should be prepared to create their own designs and film files, and should have a clear understanding of the roles that packing, roller height, and ink level play in printing. Taught by Bill Denham. Sundays, 2:30-5:30, May 17th – August 30th. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $550*.

Open Studio Workshop: Qualified printers and artists come to the studio to share the presses and tools, including the Vandercook 4, Heidelberg Windmill, tabletop Griffin, oversized Griffin, guillotine, platemaker, vertical etching tank, UV exposure lamp, design software and computers, Led by Kim Vanderheiden. Saturdays, 1-4, May 16th – August 29th. Class limit: 6. Tuition: $450*.

* Students are responsible for the cost of their own plates, film, and paper. These will vary depending on the scope of the project. The instructor can provide further details if needed. Latecomers welcome if space is available. Visa, MC, Discover, Paypal accepted.

Private Workshops or Instruction: Private workshops or one-on-one instruction are available. The studio capacity is for 6 students. To recceive pricing, contact us to discuss workshop focus, length, and number of students.
